[TinyLogin] user login problem

I am setting up a wee demo floppy using busybox and tinylogin - so it's all x86. The rootfs was built with genromfs, but /etc (on a floppy) and /home (on a ramdisk - /dev/ram1) are read/write.

I can successfully change the root password. When I add a user it appears sucessful with new entries in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow etc. It also adds a directory in /home as expected. However, I see these behaviors:

* an attempted login as this user fails with message "no valid shadow password"

* If I login as root I can su to this user, but it does not place me in that user's home directory.

/bin/tinylogin is setuid

Any hints would be appreciated.

Regards,
Richard
